Atletico: bet on the bang with Pique in January
Gerard Pique’s future as a Barcelona player seems pretty bleak, but neither does it in other teams as Diego Simeone wants him at Atletico in January, according to Spanish media.
THE Gerhard Pique has been ruled out by Barcelona this season, with Xavi relying more on the other centre-backs at his disposal.
Ronald Araujo and Gilles Cute’s injuries will bring the Spaniard back to Barcelona, but he will be back on the bench or in Atletico’s XI from January and their return.
This is backed by OK Diario, who in their publication report that Diego Simeone wants the former international at Los Blancos and has a role for him.
The Argentina coach has not been happy with the performances of Stefan Savic, Felipe and Mario Hermoso this season, while Jose Jimenez has been plagued by injury woes.
According to the publication, the name of the 35-year-old stopper for Antoine Griezmann has fallen on the negotiating table between the two clubs.
Pique has only played 135 minutes this season and as he has not declared he is ready to retire from football, Simeone is reportedly preparing him for a role as Atletico defense leader and coach, a role that once was Diego Godin held.
