Iniesta: ‘I would like to return to Barcelona but I don’t know in what role’
Andres Iniesta opened up about his bad memories of Inter ahead of Barcelona’s Camp Nou clash with the Nerazzurri in an interview with ‘Gazzetta dello Sport’, while also discussing the scenario of a return to the Catalans.
Last week’s 1-0 defeat by Inter at the Meazza has put Barcelona under pressure ahead of the second leg of the Champions League group stage, with Xavi’s side knowing that if they win in the informal rematch at Camp Nou then he will say goodbye to the dream of entering the “16” phase.
That’s exactly what Andres Iniesta believes, while Blaugrana legend and current Japanese player Vissel Kobe gives an interview to “Gazzetta dello Sport” and emphasizes, among other things:
“It is important that Barcelona win to keep their hopes alive. Inter have a great squad so they will have a difficult task.”
I expect Barcelona to take the initiative and Inter to sit back as a draw would be a good result for them.
Details decide the Champions League but Barcelona have a chance to take a step forward. The result of the first game was very negative.”
Iniesta didn’t stop there, however, as he also recalled Milan’s painful elimination in the institution’s semi-finals in the 2009-2010 season, saying: “I have bad memories because of the suspension but also because of my injury at the time.
The disappointment was double. The atmosphere in the second game was amazing.”
Regarding the current Blaugrana team led by Xavi and the possibility of him returning to Camp Nou, Iniesta explicitly stated:
“From the outside of where I am, I see an emotional instability within the team. Winning boosts confidence, but losing is enough for the challengers to emerge.
I think they found a great style of play and they have a complete team. They’ve had a great season so far. I’ll spend another season with my team in Japan, we’ll see later.
I would like to return to Barcelona but I don’t know in what role. Coach, athletic director or something else. At the moment I see myself as a footballer.”
