Pique: The winning lap and the apotheosis of Barcelona’s friends at Camp Nou
Gerard Pique put in a triumphant lap at the Camp Nou and was idolized after the end of Barcelona’s game against Almeria, which also marked the end of his footballing career.
At the end of the game against Almería, Barcelona were victorious, but none of the 92,000 fans in the stands got up to leave the Camp Nou. Not because he wanted to celebrate the win, but because he had to say goodbye to a legend of the team, Gerard Pique.
The 36-year-old centre-back ended his playing career and received praise from the cross, during the game and in the 84th minute when he came on on Saturday night.
But the highlight came after the end of the game when he was left alone on the Camp Nou pitch to do a lap of honor and salute and be idolized. In fact, some of them screamed “President, President”regarding Pique’s long-awaited career choice of one day becoming club president.
