Candidates for Simeone’s position at Atletico Pochettino and Enrique
Atlético’s consecutive poor results have put the Madrid club’s management on serious alert, with Diego Simeone’s place on the bench in jeopardy and Luis Enrique and Mauricio Pochettino on the prowl.
Diego Simeone is the most successful coach in Atlético history, having reborn the Rojiblancos in his decade at the helm (seven trophies to his credit, including the 2014 and 2021 league titles), but it’s very likely that both sides will do so soon be led divorce.
This is due to the ‘Rojiblancos” poor performance this season, the highlight of which was being eliminated from the group stage of the Champions League, something unprecedented during the Argentina coach’s stint on the bench.
In fact, according to a publication by Madrid-based newspaper As, there are several chances that the relationship between the two sides will end within weeks if two coaches from… the top drawer appear as serious candidates to take on the anointing.
They are Luis Enrique and Mauricio Pochettino, the former signed with the Spanish national team with whom he will take part in the forthcoming World Cup in Qatar and the latter without a team after ending his association with Paris last July.
