Xavi on James Rodriguez: ‘I’m sorry he played for Real and not Barcelona’
Xavi spoke about Spanish league legends in La Liga and referred to Olympiacos midfielder James Rodriguez, stressing that he would rather have worn the Barcelona shirt than Real.
In the summer of 2014, James Rodriguez took the big step in his career and signed for Real for six years instead of 75 million euros, making him the fourth most expensive transfer in the world at the time and the third most expensive in the history of the Merengues.
His tenure at Madrid, which spanned three years from 2014 to 2017, was hugely successful as he conquered everything at club level.
That’s why the Olympiakos midfielder is considered one of the legends to ever walk through the Spanish league.
In his La Liga speech, Xavi referenced the Colombia international, among others, claiming he wished he had played for Barcelona and not Real.
“He has quality and talent and he makes the difference. Thanks to his incredible left foot, he was able to score strong goals from both close and long range. I’m sorry he played for Real and not Barcelona.” characteristically said the Catalan technician.
