Xavi: ‘How we achieved it is more important than the title, Gavi has no upper limit’
Barcelona won their 14th Supercopa in their history with a show of strength at Real, with Xavi stressing that the team’s game is more important to him than the title itself, while also praising 18-year-old Gavi.
Barcelona swept past Real in Riyadh to win the Supercopa with a comfortable 3-1 win thanks to goals from Gavi, Robert Lewandowski and Pedri.
Xavi stressed after the end of the final that winning the title will give confidence to the ‘Blaugranas’ who were going through a difficult period after Messi’s departure.
At the same time, he pointed out that it was more important to him how his team won the title One after the other.
“I’m very satisfied and very happy, you know, it’s very important to me, like. If we win and we don’t play well, I don’t leave completely satisfied. What we planned went perfectly.
I’m happy for the players, they’ve had a lot of criticism, a lot of it unfair, but they’ve been sacked and that gives us a lot of confidence.
We come from a difficult time, Messi’s departure was very important and very difficult to digest, I hope it will be the first title of many. This win will give us confidence. I prefer how we did it more than the title.”
Referring to Gavi being named the game’s MVP, he said: “We’re all excited when we see him play, he has soul and character that spreads throughout the team. He comes from within, he’s spectacular and he’s 18 years old. I never tire of praising him, it there’s no holding back.” This boy has no upper limit.”
