Modric gave away 50 Rolex watches to his Real and Croatia team-mates in 2018
A former colleague of Luka Modric has revealed that when the Croatian won the Ballon d’Or in 2018, he wanted to thank his Real Madrid team-mates and the national team by handing over 50 Rolex watches, which cost him around 1.8 million euros to have.
2018 was one of the best years of his career Luke Modricafter winning the Champions League with Real, he reached the final of that year’s World Cup with Croatia – but lost to France – and won the Ballon d’Or.
The 37-year-old felt the need to truly thank the people who he believes have contributed to this year’s successes and those who have helped him become a top footballer.
As the former partner of Croatia international Simon Bastiansen revealed after the Ballon d’Or awards ceremony, he bought and gave away 50 Rolex watches to his team-mates and people from Real and Croatia.
A change that cost Modric around 1.8 million euros. “Modric bought 50 Rolex watches after winning the Ballon d’Or and gifted them to his Real and Croatia teammates and staff. Even the drivers got one”, said Bastiansen.
