Betis 1-2 Barcelona: unscathed in Seville, Real escapes
Barcelona took the postponed game against Betis and widened their lead over Real in La Liga by 2-1.
Betis and Barcelona were owed a game in La Liga due to their Supercopa semifinals in which the Blaugrana prevailed on penalties. The result was similar for “Benito Villamarin”, where the leader of the table also prevailed 2-1 and they opened the gap to Real, who are focused on the Club World Cup and have several games fewer.
The Catalans dominated most of the game, exploiting the Verdiblancos’ weakness in defense with their strikers and midfielders. The two good chances that fell at Pedri and Gavi’s feet were not converted into goals, but these would be scored in the 2nd half.
Barcelona kept the ball and in the 65th minute Alex Balde, following a Betis error, found Rafinha, who scored from close range to make it 1-0. In the 80th minute, it was Robert Lewandowski’s turn to take a corner from the right, and a bad brace with Gilles Coute’s own goal a little later didn’t take away the “three points” from Xavi’s team.
