Marcelo: ‘I was unhappy not playing for Real, there’s no player who says he’s happy on the bench’

Marcelo spoke to ESPN and explained his feelings about his last season at Real.

Marcelo was sacked by Olympiakos and returned to Madrid where he lives with his family, also due to the presence of his eldest son in Real’s academies.

On this occasion, Spanish ESPN interviewed him in a different way, while cycling. The Brazilian only spoke about Real and his 16-year experience at the club, commenting on former teammates and explaining that he doesn’t feel like he left in the summer of 2022.

“To be honest, I didn’t leave Real. That’s the feeling I have. How do you leave Real? and besides, it’s impossible to say, ‘I left Real'”.

The 34-year-old Brazilian was also asked about his departure from the club where he was captain and the player with the most trophies in his history (25). As he explained, he realized he was leaving as he celebrated with the Champions League trophy on Kyveli’s pitch.

“When I was celebrating winning the Champions League I forgot everything. It was just me and the trophy and a little boy talking to me. Looking up I realized I wasn’t staying and that my amazing cycle was on Real was over. And that’s when I started to cry. But I couldn’t stop and I said to myself, “What are you doing, you have to run.” And I couldn’t. I lost the strength in my legs. I bent over and I think I cried and said it wasn’t possible, that means I think I realized back then, at that moment, that my cycle at Real was closed. Back then. Not earlier. And then I thought about my son thought. My cycle is over, my son’s is starting now.”

“I knew I wasn’t a starter and I said, ‘What can I do to help the team?’ Of course I was unhappy that I didn’t play, there isn’t a player who says he’s happy on the bench and if he is, he’s lying, that’s impossible.

“I helped my teammates in training and felt useful. I think but I’m not saying 100%, my nature and my joy contributed enough. I’m not saying we won because I was there, no. I did felt like a winner.” . It’s bad to be captain and you don’t compete. And telling your son it’s not like the coach isn’t counting on you, but why? There are a lot. That’s why I say last season was the best because I learned a lot on a human level.”

Real Madrid have 20-year-old Robert Renan on their shortlist for central defense

Real Madrid have suffered a major blow to their central defense due to injuries and one of the things they have on their list ahead of January is the loan of 20-year-old Brazilian central defender Robert Renan from Zenit.

After the serious injuries to David Alaba and Ender Militao, Real Madrid have entered the transfer market to sign a central defender.

One of the cases that the Merengues are considering, according to AS, is 20-year-old Brazilian central defender Robert Renan, who plays for Zenit St. Petersburg. Madrid initially wants to bring him in with a loan and a purchase option for next summer.

The young footballer is exactly the right person to strengthen the Merengues as he is left-footed and can develop into a very good footballer. This particular formula would also satisfy Zenit, but there is a non-football problem.

Groups linked to the Russian state continue to face sanctions from the European Union (and the US) over the military invasion of Ukraine. Specifically, teams cannot receive an amount over 108,000 euros.

Zenit is owned by Gazprom, one of the most famous oil companies (in the world) controlled by the Russian state.

Barcelona is threatened with exclusion from the new Champions League because of FFP

According to the German newspaper “Die Welt”, Barcelona is threatened with exclusion from the new Champions League due to violations of Financial Fair Play. However, the Catalans are not aware of the specific risk.

A few hours after the legal recognition before the Court of Justice of the European Union of the European Super League, a project that Barcelona and Real Madrid have “operated” from the beginning until today, the Blaugrana are in adventure.

A publication by German newspaper Die Welt reports that the Catalans are at risk of being banned from the new Champions League (for up to three years) due to Financial Fair Play violations. Barcelona announced gigantic profits (a whopping 304 million euros), but according to the report, UEFA will audit the finances as the income must only come from “football activities”.

Barcelona reported on its balance sheet revenue from “Barca Studios”, the project that manages the team’s audiovisual material, such as the team’s official channel (Barca TV).

Sources in Barcelona management told Mundo Deportivo that they were unaware of the scenario in question.
