Gavi will be free to leave Barcelona in the summer after La Liga canceled the deal the 18-year-old signed with the club last September, according to Athletic.

Barcelona don’t say to rest from the administrative and legal troubles as a new alarm was raised at Camp Nou.

After the Negreira case that has been plaguing the Catalan club lately, La Liga has terminated his contract Gaviaccording to Athletic.

It means Gavi will continue to play regularly for the side but there will be no release clause. He will therefore be able to leave as a free agent at the end of the season without Barcelona being able to stop him.

His jersey number will change, bringing back the old 30 he wore and dropping the six.

The 18-year-old last September extended his contract with the club until the summer of 2026 with a €1bn release clause. At the time of his signing, he was still registered as an academy player.

The new deal included a clause that would only allow him to leave as a free agent if Barcelona hadn’t registered him as a first-team player by June 30, 2023, which the club can only change during a transfer window.

However, the fact that Barcelona are in unsustainable debt has meant that La Liga didn’t allow them to include the talented midfielder in the first-team list due to lack of space in the budget.
