“Montjuic” will be Barcelona’s headquarters in Spain and Europe in the new season
Barcelona’s Camp Nou move to Montjuic is final and irreversible as the Catalan club’s management inform the Spanish FA that they will be relocating in the new season.
The ‘Camp Nou’ has been Barcelona’s home for decades but the new season will find the Catalans in a new reality and leave the Spaniards behind. The construction and modernization works being carried out on their stadium cannot wait any longer and as reported by Spanish media, the Blaugrana management has informed the Spanish Football Federation that they will play their home games of the new season at the Olympic Stadium in Montjuïc.
Until recently, there was a backlog for the stadium that will host it in the domestic and European competitions from the 2023-24 season, although the Blaugrana end this issue anyway by notifying the federation people accordingly.
Barca are currently negotiating a €1.5 billion financing deal with various investment funds to refurbish the imposing Camp Nou and should they receive the loan immediately, the construction of their stadium will start in the summer of 2023.
If something like that happens, then her move will most likely take a little over a year, with her people’s timetable to return to her – new and modernized – home by November 2024.
It should be remembered that the stadium, built on Montjuic hill, was the home ground of Barcelona’s other side Espanyol until 2009, with a capacity of 55,926 spectators.
