Betis: The legendary Joaquin has decided the end of his career as he sets the La Liga record
Joaquin decided to retire at the age of 41 after breaking an all-time La Liga record.
THE Joaquin decided that at the age of 41 it was time to end a great football career. The legendary leader of Betis announced the decision on a wonderful VIDEO in which he paints his portrait in the “Verdiblancos” shirt.
The Spain winger started his career with the Andalusians in 2000, came from the second team, stayed until 2006 and returned in 2015. In between, he played five seasons at Valencia, two at Malaga and two at Fiorentina.
With the Spanish national team, he made 51 appearances between 2002 and 2007, scoring four goals while being the star player in Furia Rocha’s draw against the Greek national team at Euro 2004.
The end of his career will not come immediately. Joaquin will feature in at least eight of Betis’ remaining nine games in the season to break the LaLiga record that Antoni Thhubithareta has held since 1998 when he made his 622nd appearance. With 15 games this year, Joaquin has already reached 615 in the category and by the end of the season he is expected to be the record holder.
The record may not last long, however, as Athletic’s Raul Garcia, 36, sits in 3rd place with 581 appearances.
