Mallorca vs Valencia: Diakbi refused to pose for La Liga’s anti-racist message
Mukhtar Diakabi refused to be photographed with the anti-racism banner held up by Mallorca and Valencia players in response to La Liga’s stance on his own racist incident.
During the game between Mallorca and Valencia, a huge anti-racist banner hung in front of his flank, which was held up by all but one player from both teams and the referees.
Mukhtar Diakabi chose not to attend this event to protest the incident where he was the victim of racism and didn’t have the support of La Liga.
It was April 2021 when Valencia played Cádiz and during the game Juan Cala of the home team was allegedly racially insulted by the Senegalese bat defender.
The Valencia players left the field, the game was temporarily suspended, but the visitors returned and eventually resumed the game without Diakambi in the starting line-up.
La Liga has launched an investigation into the incident. Diakbi claimed his opponent called him a ‘Black’ and the former AEK player denied this. The League found no presumption of guilt against Kala and dismissed the case.
