Xavi on Messi: ‘His return is our priority, it also depends on him’
Among other things, Xavi said in the press conference ahead of the Celta game on the final day of La Liga that Barcelona’s priority is Messi’s return while he isn’t worried about possible UEFA punishment for the Blaugrana.
Catalan Sport reported in today’s publication (03/06) that Al Hilal intends to announce Messi’s transfer on June 6th.
However, in the press conference ahead of the last game of the year against Telta, Xavi hinted that the Argentine superstar is one of Barcelona’s priorities for the summer transfer market, stressing that the return is also in his hands. At the same time, he reassured the possibility of UEFA punishing the Catalans.
Xavi said about Messi among other things: “Our priorities are clear. I would really like the return of Lionel Messi. He knows it and I’ve talked about it before. It also depends on him.
In addition to Leo, a defensive midfielder is in the foreground. Those are ideal priorities. It would make us better. I’m waiting. I speak to him and would be happy to see him return.
He’s done a great job everywhere he’s been. I’ll understand every decision he makes, but (also) as a friend of Barcelona, I’d love for him to come back“.
On the possibility of Barcelona being banned from Europe: “I’m calm, the club, the president and Mateu Alemani have told me. I’m worried about whether we’ll have to bring in players and whether we’ll have to get rid of others. I’m more aware of football“.
