Alvaro Morata scored twice against his former club to lead Atlético to a comfortable 3-1 win over Real Madrid in the Madrid derby, with the Merengues missing out on a season-long winning streak.

The 284th Derbi madrileño had a clear winner at both individual and team levels. Alvaro Morata was the star of the game in the “Metropolitano” with two goals and Atlético deservedly prevailed 3-1 from Real on the 6th matchday of La Liga.

This result is the first game this year that the Merengues are winless in any competition, having lost 6/6 so far.

The game started optimally for the home team, as Morata scored the first goal in the 4th minute after a precise cross from Samuel Lino. The Brazilian left-back made… a party from the left against Lucas Vathketh, although the “Merengues” also had problems in attack.

Vinicius missed the derby and Carlo Ancelotti was inspired to use his top scorer of the season, Jude Bellingham, as a striker, without success.

Atletico had eliminated the visitors for a long time and in the 18th minute it was Antoine Griezmann’s turn, who scored from a cross from the left.

Real’s reaction came at the end of the first half. First with Toni Kroos, who made it 2-1 with a great shot from outside the penalty area, and then with Eduardo Kamavinga, who sent the ball into the net after a rebound from the post, but the goal was not counted for offside by Antonio Riedinger.

Everything looked like there was going to be a big fight in the second half, but it wasn’t until the 33rd second that Morata’s cross made it 3-1, unmarked outside the small area on a cross from… the left, where Bathketh was no longer there, but Nacho, who took his place.

Diego Simeone’s men slowed down after the third goal and tried to contain their opponents’ attacks. The substitution of Joselu on the counterattack (in place of Luka Modric) and Aurelien Tzuameni did not pose much of a threat to Atletico’s defense, with the exception of a few body-heavy shots up front.

Atletico’s substitutions came closer to goal, with Memphis Depay also having a good shot that went wide, but that cost the home side another great derby win.
