Atletico – Espanyol 2-1: Redemption with a penalty in the 10th minute of delay

Atletico saved the “three points” against Espanyol thanks to a penalty in the 10th minute of delay and stay on course for the next Champions League.

Tempers were not clear after Manchester City’s episodic exclusion from the Champions League quarter-finals and Atletico almost paid for it Espanol for the 32nd game of the league. In the end, a penalty by Didak Villa in the 7th minute of delays resulted in Yannick Carrasco’s winner at 90+10′, keeping the champions safe in the top four.

The Catalans were better and more organized on the field, they threatened the opponent more but they didn’t manage to beat Jan Oblak. Diego Simeone made a triple substitution at the break and two of the new signings, Mateus Kounia and Yannick Carrasco, combined to make it 1-0 in the 52nd minute.

It was one of the rare home side attacks that worried Diego Lopeth. Espanyol took control again and in the 71st minute, Zofre Kontogbia received a second yellow card, leaving Atletico a player down. Oblak made an unstable action out of Raul de Tomas’ foul, the ball hit the bar and landed in the net.

The draw caused irritation among the hosts, who did not achieve a final until 90.+4′. A Felipe header ousted Diego Lopez in an impressive move and salvation came three minutes later. Didak Villa shook the area, the referee didn’t see it but Atletico’s protests suspected him of doing something wrong. The VAR informed him and after seeing the phase in the video assigned the end of the sentences. Carrasco took over the execution and scored in the 100th minute to make it 2-1.

Real Madrid have 20-year-old Robert Renan on their shortlist for central defense

Real Madrid have suffered a major blow to their central defense due to injuries and one of the things they have on their list ahead of January is the loan of 20-year-old Brazilian central defender Robert Renan from Zenit.

After the serious injuries to David Alaba and Ender Militao, Real Madrid have entered the transfer market to sign a central defender.

One of the cases that the Merengues are considering, according to AS, is 20-year-old Brazilian central defender Robert Renan, who plays for Zenit St. Petersburg. Madrid initially wants to bring him in with a loan and a purchase option for next summer.

The young footballer is exactly the right person to strengthen the Merengues as he is left-footed and can develop into a very good footballer. This particular formula would also satisfy Zenit, but there is a non-football problem.

Groups linked to the Russian state continue to face sanctions from the European Union (and the US) over the military invasion of Ukraine. Specifically, teams cannot receive an amount over 108,000 euros.

Zenit is owned by Gazprom, one of the most famous oil companies (in the world) controlled by the Russian state.

According to the German newspaper “Die Welt”, Barcelona is threatened with exclusion from the new Champions League due to violations of Financial Fair Play. However, the Catalans are not aware of the specific risk.

A publication by German newspaper Die Welt reports that the Catalans are at risk of being banned from the new Champions League (for up to three years) due to Financial Fair Play violations. Barcelona announced gigantic profits (a whopping 304 million euros), but according to the report, UEFA will audit the finances as the income must only come from “football activities”.

Barcelona reported on its balance sheet revenue from “Barca Studios”, the project that manages the team’s audiovisual material, such as the team’s official channel (Barca TV).

Sources in Barcelona management told Mundo Deportivo that they were unaware of the scenario in question.
