Athletic lost points against Girona, who got a roommate at the top
Girona failed to reach sixth out of six points as Valverde’s Athletic took points with a 1-1 final and the champions are now level with Real at the top of the table.
A 1-1 draw ended the match between Girona and Athletic that ended La Liga’s 14th matchday, with the hosts unable to make it six out of six and Ernesto Valverde’s Basques pushing the hosts off the top spot , as they are now tied with Real on 35 points.
The home team opened the scoring in the 55th minute with a cross from Tsyganov from the right after a parallel ball from the left. However, the visitors managed to equalize in the 67th minute after a beautiful shot from distance by Inaki Williams.
The Girona players tried until the end of the game to score a second goal to take the three points and the victory, but they failed.
