Real injury: Alaba suffers a torn cruciate ligament and misses the season
Bad news for Real as David Alaba tore a cruciate ligament in his left knee against Villarreal and will be out for the rest of the season.
Real beat Villarreal 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu to take the lead in La Liga, but lost David Alaba, who was the big loser of the night.
The Austrian defender was seriously injured and in the 35th minute there was a change, which Real announced suffered a torn cruciate ligament in his left knee, which kept him out of action for the remainder of the season.
The 31-year-old will undergo surgery in the next few days and is expected to be out of action for around eight months, which means he will also miss the 2024 European Championship.
