Laporta on Xavi: “If we don’t win titles, we have to make decisions”
Juan Laporta has assured everyone that he still has full faith in Xavi, but explained that he will have to make decisions if this season proves “fruitless” for Barcelona.
On Saturday, Barcelona once again proved wasteful as they failed to convert them into goals despite having numerous chances (they are the leading team in the top five leagues when it comes to creating chances in the first and second halves) and stayed in the game 1-1 with Valencia in “Mestaja” for the 17th matchday the La Liga.
The Catalans are in third place in the table and are nine points behind the top, where Girona is. In this context, and despite having won against Atlético since December 3, Juan Laporta was asked about the situation.
The club’s president made it clear that Xavi had his trust and stressed that he would make decisions if the team did not achieve their goals.
“He has all our trust and deserves it. When you trust someone, they do their best. The trust we have in Xavi is absolute.
Aside from his knowledge, he is a great coach, but he also has the virtue of being a resilient person who protects his players, which says a lot about him.
He also had to overcome a lot of adversity this season due to injury and is overcoming them. He’s great in the analysis he does after the game, I tell him that when I listen to one of his press conferences.
Defeat always has consequences. If we don’t win titles this season, we will have to make decisions that the club needs most based on what has been done. The fact is that we are alive in all competitions.”
