Atletico have expressed their support to UEFA, arguing that Europe’s top five do not want or support the creation of the European Super League.

The teams’ announcements on Thursday (December 21) come after the European Court of Justice ruled to justify the European Super League and uphold the appeal of A22, which represents the newly formed organization.

Atlético, on the other hand, is not following the path of Barcelona and Real, who are among the pioneers of the European Super League, but is turning against them, making it clear that the top 5 in Europe do not want the new competition.

Analytically:

After analyzing the decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union, Atlético would like to state the following:

1. The decision on the framework of prior authorization for other competitions refers to old UEFA Statutes, which were already amended in June 2022.

2. The European Club Association (ECA) and UEFA have established a partnership which renders the view that UEFA is a monopoly irrelevant as the clubs have 50% of their shareholdings as a result of the agreements reached within the framework of this joint partnership (“Consortium”) % decide to whom the sponsorship and television rights are sold and how the proceeds are distributed, as well as the forms of competition.

3. The European football family doesn’t want them European Super League. Germany, France, England, Italy, Spain (except Real Madrid and Barcelona) etc. They don’t want the Super League. We are in favor of protecting the big family of European football, protecting the domestic leagues and thereby qualifying for European competitions every season on the pitch.”
