Mediapart: “Paris had hired a company for social media campaigns at the expense of competitors, media and even Mbappe”
French website Mediapart revealed that Paris hired a company to carry out attacks on Twitter using fake accounts against the media, opposing players, fans and even people from the club, such as Kylian Mbappe!
The crisis in Paris seems to be deepening, and not just because of the Kylian Mbappe thing. On Wednesday, French investigative journalism website Mediapart, which has been involved in distributing documents including the Panama Papers, revealed that the French champions had hired a social media company to attack various opponents of the club, including the likes of Mbappe!
The way of working
According to the publication, in 2018 Paris hired Barcelona-based company Digital Big Brother (DBB), run by Lotfi Bel Haj, a Franco-Tunisian businessman who owns several companies with similar goals.
Jean-Marcial Ribes, head of Paris communications until May and a close associate of Nasel al-Khelaifi for seven years, appears to be monitoring all DBB activity and issuing instructions via Twitter for “attacks” to be carried out either through insults or insults defamation or by creating and spreading rumors.
Mediapart cites a 50-page file that describes all of DBB’s actions over the two years 2018-2020, as long as the contract signed with Paris lasted. The site claims that DBB created a “digital army” of Twitter accounts, but no bots. He preferred to put ordinary people with football knowledge behind fake accounts, most of which supported Paris. In fact, 10% of those fake accounts turned into accounts that influenced the team’s fans, even the media, after presenting the image of a real fan.
The most important among them was Paname Squad, allegedly the accounts of many friends of Paris, opened in August 2018 and published a lot of information, mostly transferrable, that even journalists did not have! He quickly amassed an audience of 10,000 followers and even created a website linked to that account. In 2020, the account ceased operations without justification, which was also the year DBB’s cooperation with Paris ended.
The victims of the attacks
The publication also refers to the victims of such “attacks” by fake social media accounts. As he points out, the main media that Paris viewed as hostile were Mediapart and Equipe. However, they didn’t stop there.
As he reports, the victim of such practices was the Rennes fan who was beaten by Neymar in April 2019, with one of those fake accounts revealing the fan’s identity on social media.
The Brazilian needed to be protected in every way and that’s why dozens of similar accounts surfaced on the account of Neymar’s ex-partner who accused him of rape (a case that was ultimately dropped).
The attacks and negative and even slanderous comments on the person of the President of Lyon and traditional enemy of Paris, Jean-Michel Ohla, continued.
Panama Squad, which grew to become the DBB’s “most powerful” account, appeared to be an opponent of Financial Fair Play, as did Paris, while being used to speak out against people at the club when there was relative team dissatisfaction .
The special report commented that the manager and several players didn’t understand Andero Enrique’s decisions as sporting director and after a summer that didn’t have the expected transfer success. Adrien Rabiot was also a constant target of his mother (who also acts as his agent) when negotiations ensued over compensation as part of his contract termination, with insults to both him and his mother.
Targeted criticism also of Mbappe
Even the team’s big star, Kylian Mbappe, was heavily criticized from the Paname Squad fake account when he made statements that management didn’t like.
Thus, in March 2019, the French striker told TF1 that he wanted to stay in Paris after a… soft transfer series with Real, and the Twitter account in question first congratulated him on this decision and then admonished him: “Now work quiet and silent. We don’t need so many explanations. We need answers on the field.”
Two months later, when he was named Ligue 1 Player of the Year 2019-2020, he asked the club for more responsibility, “or maybe it’ll happen somewhere else”. The Paname squad never missed an opportunity, tweeting: “The Parisian fans love you and you know it. You sent your message today, but at what time? If you could put that much pressure on the pitch…”
It is noted that French media contacted both Paris and Ribs, who denied there was a contract targeting DBB attacks against the team’s targets, and both sides claimed that this company was merely conducting strategic promotion campaigns of the association carried out.

Paris: “We completely reject any plan for the so-called Super League”
The European Super League wants to change the situation in European football, but at the moment it is difficult to find many strong allies, with Paris having made it clear that it has no intention whatsoever of becoming part of this league.
The General Court of the European Union on Thursday (December 21) accepted the appeal of A22, which represents the European Super League, against the monopoly of UEFA and FIFA, ruling that the European associations do not have the right to authorize interclub competition.
This fact gave Barcelona and Real, who are leading the effort to create the ESL, the right to talk about a new era that is dawning in the football of the old continent, but their dream of leaving aside the European Football Federation will not come true is easy .
And that is because they are currently facing numerous hurdles erected by famous European teams that do not want to leave the UEFA umbrella, including Paris, which expresses its categorical rejection of the prospect of creating the new organization.
“Paris Saint-Germain strongly rejects any plan for the so-called Super League, which has been in place since day one and will always remain so.
As a proud European institution, Paris supports the principles of the European sports model, the values of open competition and inclusion, and collaborates with all recognized bodies in European football.
Especially with the fans and the players who are at the heart of the game.”says the corresponding announcement on Wednesday, which bears the signature of Paris President Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
