Mbappe: ‘It was easier to go to Real but I’m French and in Paris the book is white’
In the Sports Illustrated interview, Kylian Mbappe spoke about his decision not to leave Paris Saint-Germain, the racist comments he received and the 2018 World Cup that changed his life.
Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Kylian Mbappe gave an interview in which he referred, among other things, to his decision to stay at Paris Saint-Germain and “close the door” on Real Madrid.
As the 2018 World Champion with the French national team, who will again fly the national flag at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, he reflected on how much the World Cup he won with the tricolor changed his life.
“Macron called me and said: ‘I know you want to go. I want to tell you that you are important to France. I don’t want you to go. Here is your chance to make history. Everyone loves you “I said I appreciate that because it’s really crazy. The President calls you and says he wants you to stay.
The 2018 World Cup changed my life. Everything was different after this World Cup because the whole world was watching. And when you do something good, it’s crazy afterwards. I was also known before the World Cup, but not that much. It took me a while to learn to deal with it.” and then added to the racist attacks:
“I can’t play for people who think I’m a monkey. I won’t play. But then I think of all the people around me and say it wouldn’t be good to quit. Because I think I am a role model for everyone.”
Regarding the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and the France national team, he said: “This is the new France. That’s not why I left the national team. Because it’s a message to the new generation to show that we are stronger than that.
I feel French because I was born in France and they gave me the opportunity to grow up normally. People think differently about the banlieue without having been there. I got a lot of values there. When I tell people about it, they don’t believe it’s true. yes there is no problem There is no. It’s like everywhere.”
On Paris Saint-Germain and the possibility of a move to Real, he said: “In Paris, the book is completely white. It’s an opportunity and you have to think differently. Of course it was easier to go to Real. But I have this ambition. I am french. I’m a child of Paris and to win in Paris is very special. Your name will be written in the history of your country for life.”

Paris: “We completely reject any plan for the so-called Super League”
The European Super League wants to change the situation in European football, but at the moment it is difficult to find many strong allies, with Paris having made it clear that it has no intention whatsoever of becoming part of this league.
The General Court of the European Union on Thursday (December 21) accepted the appeal of A22, which represents the European Super League, against the monopoly of UEFA and FIFA, ruling that the European associations do not have the right to authorize interclub competition.
This fact gave Barcelona and Real, who are leading the effort to create the ESL, the right to talk about a new era that is dawning in the football of the old continent, but their dream of leaving aside the European Football Federation will not come true is easy .
And that is because they are currently facing numerous hurdles erected by famous European teams that do not want to leave the UEFA umbrella, including Paris, which expresses its categorical rejection of the prospect of creating the new organization.
“Paris Saint-Germain strongly rejects any plan for the so-called Super League, which has been in place since day one and will always remain so.
As a proud European institution, Paris supports the principles of the European sports model, the values of open competition and inclusion, and collaborates with all recognized bodies in European football.
Especially with the fans and the players who are at the heart of the game.”says the corresponding announcement on Wednesday, which bears the signature of Paris President Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
