Henry: ‘Messi went into mental shock when he left Barcelona’
Thierry Henry, in the interview with Equipe, claimed that Lionel Messi’s adjustment to Paris Saint-Germain isn’t easy, stressing that the Argentine suffered a psychological shock when he left Barcelona.
Lionel Messi has been in the eye of the storm several times in France due to his performance in Paris Saint-Germain, with French newspaper Equipe actually being extremely harsh on him.
Notably, he had given the Argentinian star three points for his performance against Real in the Champions League round of 16, stressing that his image on the pitch was sad. In an interview with Equipe, Thierry Henry was asked about his former Barcelona team-mate, expressing his own belief.
In particular, the veteran French forward claimed that adapting to Paris wasn’t easy for Messi as he didn’t want to leave the Catalan club.
“He left Barcelona crying. He went into mental shock because he didn’t expect to leave. People say he has everything in Paris, but it’s not so obvious.”
When I left Arsenal for Barcelona it took me a year to recover. “I got injured after a ‘divorce’ and had to learn a new game system.” said the Frenchman to L’Équipe.
