Kylian Mbappe’s goal against Greece restored the balance between the two phenomena that will dominate world football for years to come as he finished the season on par with Erling Haaland’s goals.

The season ended for Kylian Mbappe with France’s second game in Euro 2024 qualifiers in June. The 24-year-old superstar scored one goal against Greece national team and has netted 54 goals for club and country this season.

The goal for the “Blues” was the 13th of the season, including eight at World Cup 2022 (with a hat-trick in the final) and four in Euro 2024 qualifying.

With Paris, he scored 29 goals in Ligue 1, seven in the Champions League and another in the Coupe de France, taking him to 41 in 43 games (he also has 10 assists).

The total of 54 goals corresponds to Erling Haaland’s record this year. The Norwegian scored 52 goals (in 53 games) for Manchester City, was the top scorer in the Premier League with 36 and the Champions League with 12, plus scored a further three in the FA Cup and one in the League Cup.

He has only played three games with the national team this season (his country’s absence from the World Cup also cost him), scoring two goals. However, he could overtake the French striker if he scored against Cyprus in Oslo in his last game of the season.

Third among the top scorers of the season is Harry Kane, who ended the season with two goals he scored for England on Monday (40) and Lionel Messi is down two.
