Marthelino took over the helm from Marseille
After 25 years coaching Spanish clubs, Marthelino has decided to try his luck abroad for the first time and the veteran manager has been appointed as the new manager of Marseille.
Marthelino has had a remarkable presence in his home country for many years and this fact has been one of the reasons why Olympiacos have had him at the top of the list of coaching positions so far.
In the end, the Red-Whites ended up with a compatriot, Diego Martinez, and the 57-year-old coach waited for the right offer and got it from Marseille.
Olimpic had been besieging him lately, looking for who would fill the void left by Tudor’s departure, and their efforts were successful. Marthelino accepted the challenge of moving to the challenging ‘Velodrome’ and this was announced on Friday night.
“I would like to thank Olympic for the trust they have placed in me. Our discussions about the team and the project encouraged me in this decision.”
Together with my entire staff, we are convinced of the team’s plan. I am aware of the responsibility that this mission entails and our commitment will be comprehensive.” The veteran coach stressed to Marseille general manager Javier Ribalta, among others:
“Marcelino’s arrival is part of the desire to continue the club’s work. His expertise and his personality meet the demands at a high level.
His experience will also be an important asset to strengthen the work started last season.”
