Kelaifi: “People are dying in Ukraine and we’re fighting for the European Super League?”
Paris Saint-Germain President Nasser Al-Kalaifi referred to the European Super League and his refusal to join it in an interview with the BBC.
Speaking to the BBC, Nasser al-Kalaifi referred to the issue of the European Super League. Paris Saint-Germain President stressed that it is not possible for people to die in Ukraine worrying about the ESL issue.
“With or without ESL – I hate to say Super League – we are talking about three teams. You know that can’t happen. People are dying in Ukraine with no place to sleep and we are arguing about the Super League?”
The problem with ESL teams is that they don’t have stability. You don’t have a long-term financial plan. They talk about their legal contracts. “What they forget is that football is a social contract.” expressly mentioned.
Kelaifi then admitted he was beaten by Florentino Perez to join the European Super League. However, he emphasized that he had rejected the offer of 400 million euros.
“Florentino Perez spoke to me in the Champions League final. I told him that I like to talk but that doing things behind my back doesn’t interest me. I want to play big games. I know the public wants them. But I can’t say in a small club that it’s out. There has to be an open system where everyone is respected.
I could have gotten the 400 million euro check. I was invited. Then I said no. They said outside they didn’t call me, that says it all” said the president of the Parisians.
