Sergio Rico: “When I woke up from the coma, my first thought was whether I could play football again”
Sergio Rico spoke on camera in Paris about the serious accident and his struggle, revealing that football was the first thing on his mind when he woke up from his coma.
Last August, Sergio Rico was released from the hospital after three months (82 days) of daily fighting.
The 29-year-old Paris goalkeeper deeply alarmed the world football community when news broke last May of his serious injury from a fall on his horse in a village outside Seville, which left him in a coma.
In an interview with the Paris broadcaster, the experienced goalkeeper revealed that as soon as he woke up, the first thing he thought of was football.
“The truth is that I am doing very well. “Thank God the recovery process is going quite well, although I am not being discharged for medical reasons, but in the end they decided to send me home so that we can do the first part of the recovery.” Here.
I am very happy to be able to do this here, with my family. Alba and my friends little by little. Every day I feel better and better, I feel better, I feel stronger.
I don’t remember the time of the accident. I don’t remember the first part, when I was in the hospital when I was in a coma. When I woke up, my first thought was football. I had no problems with my head or my memory.
I remembered all my family, my wife and my friends. I was lying in a hospital room with all the monitors and the IV in my arm… The first thing you think about is whether you can play football again. And I asked the doctor that.
My whole life revolves around football and it wouldn’t make sense to think about anything else. It’s the only thing I’ve dedicated my entire life to. My thought was always to return.
Hopefully everything goes well and the doctor allows me to do some exercise to get back in shape and get back into the team. “I want it to be done before the end of the season,” Rico said, among other things.
