Chaos in Marseille as president Pablo Longoria and three members of management resigned from their duties, albeit temporarily, following threats from the team’s fans.

The mood in the ranks of Marseille, AEK’s opponent in the Europa League groups, is explosive, as coach Marthelino as well as President Pablo Longoria, sports director Javier Ribalta, finance director Stéphane Tissier and CEO and strategy director Pedro Iriodo report Equipe and RMC.

The four men will not accompany the team to Amsterdam, where the Foxes face Ajax in the Europa League group stage opener, and will decide whether to leave the club permanently or stay.

Marseille issued a statement saying the board could not operate under threats and intimidation, but did not say individual members would resign.

Marseille’s board believes in a transparent and orderly relationship with its fans and everyone at the club – players, staff and management – views criticism as an integral part of the role and honor of representing Marseille on and off the pitch.

However, the club cannot accept personal threats. Its members cannot tolerate individual attacks and any form of unfounded public defamation. A relationship based on intimidation cannot guarantee the minimum acceptable conditions for the club’s board to continue investing in the transformation of Marseille“.
