Marseille turned to Gaultier to take the helm

Marseille are looking for a replacement for Marthelino on their bench and according to the latest reports from France, Olympique management have contacted Christophe Gaultier’s representatives to explore his intentions.

Christophe Gaultier was crowned French champions with Paris last year in the only season he was on the bench, and Paris’ failure in the Champions League effectively forced him out.

His name is now back in the transfer news and that’s thanks to… Marseille, where the people of Olympique are looking for Marthelino’s successor on the bench and are turning their attention to the 59-year-old manager’s case.

Reports from Equipe and RMC even suggest that Gaultier’s name was heavily discussed at Marseille over the summer as a possible replacement for Tudor, with Marthelino being promoted at the time and the Marseille-born coach now back in the spotlight.

However, there is still a long way to go from expressions of interest to new signings, as the residents of Marseille, AEK’s opponents in the Europa League groups, first want to see the mood of their fans, as Gaultier is not the current player’s beloved face in the “Velodrome after his presence in the “hated” Paris.
