Gennaro Gattuso is Marseille’s new coach after the partnership with Marthelino was ended due to a poor start to the season.

Marseille is now the third coach of the season, after Marthelino, who started the year, and Jacques Abardonado, who took over as interim. Gennaro Gattuso made it his mission on Wednesday to save what was technically possible.

The Italian coach was announced by the club, which has been in crisis for weeks, to take over after Paris Saint-Germain’s significant fall from grace at the Classique on Sunday.

“I am very happy and proud to take over the management of Marseille. A club and a stadium, the Velodrome, where I had the opportunity to compete as a player, known in Europe for its passion. I look forward to working with my new team and moving forward to the next challenges,” said the 45-year-old coach, who was close to Olympiakos over the summer and will eventually face AEK as coach of Marseille.
