Ligue 1
The optimism of the Lyon president and the ominous statistics for the development of the season
Lyon president John Textor appears optimistic despite the club’s poor start to the season, with the French club bottom of Ligue 1.
Lyon have endured one of the worst starts in their history as the French side have suffered six defeats and three draws in the league so far after their first nine games. The former Ligue 1 top club is in last place in the table and is the only club to ignore the joy of victory.
The poor start led the team management to sack Laurent Blanc and put Fabio Grosso on the bench, although they did not bring him with them Despite it in Lyon the necessary results, since they are in last place in the table with only 3 points and a negative goal record, conceding 18 goals (second worst defense) and scoring only 7 goals, a figure that earns them the title of the league’s worst offence .
The alarming statistics don’t end there, however, as according to Opta, at the end of the season 14 of the 17 teams that picked up three points or less after their first nine games of a Ligue 1 season were relegated.
The difficult situation in which the… Lyon, who managed just 32 minutes of goalscoring action in this year’s Ligue 1 games, appear to disagree with the team’s president, John Textor, as the American businessman still argues that the team’s goal is to go down to leave for Europe following the instructions from Grosso.
