Marseille-Lyon postponed after attacks on “Gon” coach
Marseille’s game against Lyon at the Velodrome was postponed after an attack on the away team’s coaches before their arrival at the stadium, which led, among other things, to the injury of Fabio Grosso.
Due to the events before the game at the Velodrome, the authorities have decided to postpone the match between Marseille and Lyon.
The game was scheduled for matchday 10 of Ligue 1 and would complete the matchday schedule.
About an hour before kick-off, Marseille fans threw stones at both the Lyon team bus and three buses taking their fans to the velodrome.
Among those injured in the attack was the “Gons” coach, Fabio Grosso, who suffered a three-centimeter cut above his left eye and had difficulty seeing.
Although Lyon communicated their starting line-up to the match officials, after the matches held, it was decided not to start the game around 20 minutes before half-time.
According to French media, Grosso was distraught by the incident and was unable to train his team.
“We held an emergency meeting and exchanged our views after looking at the injuries suffered by Lyon’s staff. Lyon didn’t want the game to take place. In accordance with Lyon’s decision and the league’s protocol in this regard, it has been decided not to play the game.” “It will not take place, the decision has been made. The rest will be announced by the relevant authorities,” said the match’s referee, François Letexier.
