Gattuso: “Grosso risked losing an eye, strict laws are needed”
Gennaro Gattuso has expressed his regret over Fabio Grosso’s injury in an attack by Marseille fans and revealed that he has already contacted him. At the same time, he stressed the need for strong measures to stop the violence.
The attack on Lyon’s coach on Sunday evening by Marseille ultras added another black sheet of sad incidents of violence to French football. Fabio Grosso suffered a facial injury and the game at the Velodrome was postponed, which will eventually be played on December 6th.
For his part, Gennaro Gattuso hastened to contact his colleague and compatriot by phone to express his regret over what happened and express his solidarity, with the Marseillaise coach stressing in his statements that he had to take immediate measures to resolve the situation improve.
“We spoke on Monday, Fabio went to training then. I’m sad about what happened because I have a great relationship with him. We shared something unique as footballers, but Sunday should have been an incredible evening too.”
I also talked to Fabio about his luck, because if the stone had hit him full in the eye, he might even have lost it.emphasized “Ringio” to usefully add: “There were 65,000 people in the stadium, there were families, people who even came from Belgium.”
I saw little children crying and the majority of our fans were angry. None of them are represented by three or four people who ruined everything.
At first I didn’t see that Fabio was bloody, it seemed like he was fine with 3-4 stitches and that it wasn’t anything serious.
From what I saw, it was true that the game didn’t take place. I don’t want to lecture, I’m neither mayor nor prefect, but the hotel in Lyon was five minutes from the stadium.
Because the game was high risk, the road was supposed to be closed for those five minutes. Maybe what I say is simple in words and not implemented in practice, but that’s what I think.
Gattuso didn’t just stop there, but was asked to address the measures that should be taken to eliminate the phenomenon of violence, with Gattuso stating: “We always talk about Margaret Thatcher, who eliminated hooliganism in England .”
This means strict laws are needed. They should exist at European level, not after some things have happened, but before. I experienced similar situations as a player.
