Sakho shook his head after a heated argument with his coach about Montpellier
The serious incident between Mamadou Sakho and his coach Michel De Zacharian brought the French defender to an ignominious end in Montpellier as he announced his departure in a scathing Instagram post.
Montpellier’s 2-0 Ligue 1 defeat away to Nantes led to tensions in the club’s dressing room last week. Mamadou Sakho clashed with coach Michel De Zacharian and the club management punished him as a player excluded from the team’s competitive activities.
The situation has been quite unpleasant for all parties throughout and on Thursday the 33-year-old French full-back decided to cut ties with Gordian by bidding farewell to Montpellier with a post on his social media account claiming his innocence the controversial incident.
“You should know how to leave a table when respect is no longer maintained”Sacco said at the beginning of his written statement, adding:
“Following the incident that occurred last week at the training center and for which I deny any responsibility, I have decided to end my collaboration with the Montpellier club on November 2, 2023.”
I spent two years in this family club, where I enjoyed sharing my great experiences with my teammates and “little brothers” from the training center.
At the same time, I would like to thank them for their unconditional support, as well as the medical staff and not forgetting the fans who appreciated my services to the club.
Many thanks also to sports director Bruno Caroti for his trust in me during my adventure in Montpellier.
Finally, I would like to express a special thank you to President Laurent Nicolin, who, like his father before him, leads Montpellier with the principles and values that are close to me.
We met as men, we leave as men. Happy season finale, Mamadou Sakho.
It is recalled that Sacco moved to Montpellier in the summer of 2021 after eight years in the Premier League (3.5 at Liverpool and 4.5 at Crystal Palace), with the experienced full-back making a total of 45 appearances for his home team in the last two years completed.
