Grosso: “I didn’t want my face to go around the world”
Fabio Grosso did not hide his anger at the attack by Marseille fans on the Lyon coach and the cause of his injury, stressing that the lives of athletes should not be put in danger.
Fabio Grosso was the big star in the Marseille derby against Lyon a few days ago, and for… the wrong reasons: the Italian coach of “Lyon” suffered facial injuries after an attack by Marseille fans on his team coach and the upcoming game delay.
A few days before the death that night, the former 2006 world champion Italian national team spoke for the first time about the sad events that took place outside the velodrome, saying he was shocked and outraged.
“I didn’t want my face to go around the world. What happened should never have happened. I’m not the most important person, there were 40 people on the bus.”
It could have been anyone else, there were fans in a different coach. And I might as well not be here to tell you about it.Grosso initially emphasized, added in a press conference ahead of Sunday’s home game against Metz:
“I’m doing better, but I could be better. We are disappointed, angry, shocked and Sunday was a very sad day. We cannot put the lives of athletes at risk.”
According to Grosso, improving stadium security should be taken seriously from now on, with the Lyon coach stressing:
“The bus passed us This is not normal in a place where there were a lot of stones on the side of the road due to the work. Removing fans from the stadium is not a solution, it goes hand in hand with improving security.”
ElI hope we don’t wait for something worse to happen. We passed a place we shouldn’t have passed. When we drove to the stadium, we had two motorbikes and two cars accompanying us. On the way back we had 4 cars and 20 motorbikes. Why are we acting too late?”
