Gattuso: “I will fall into the fire to defend my players”
Gennaro Gattuso defended Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was booed by the crowd during Marseille’s draw with Lille, and put up a protective wall for his players.
Marseille failed to win against Lille and get closer to them in the table and with a 0-0 draw on matchday 11 of Ligue 1 they were way behind and in fact just a few days before the game against AEK (9/ 11 a.m., 10 p.m.) in the OPAP Arena for the Europa League.
The Marseille world is unhappy and Gennaro Gattuso has been quick to promise that he will work hard to help his team while building a protective wall for his players.
“I’m happy with the performance, but I understand people’s disappointment. I have great trust in my team. We need to find continuity in results and still have a lot of room for improvement.”
We are well-paid professionals. That’s why I respect the fans who pay for their tickets. I’ve already been yelled at and there’s only one solution: react and work.”
THE Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was among the players booed the most when he entered the pitch in the second half, with the Italian saying:
“I have to defend my players, not just him Aubameyang. We have to keep our heads up, not give up and I will do everything to make Pierre react. I’ll wait a little longer because his name is Aubameyang. He makes mistakes like everyone else.
People expect him to score a goal in every game. Today we all made mistakes offensively and I don’t see any player who is exhausted or relaxed. We focus too much on him and I don’t particularly like that. I will jump into the fire to defend him, just like I would for any of my players.
