Far-right symbols in the game on Sunday provoked reactions
The French Football Federation will launch a disciplinary procedure over the far-right banner symbols displayed during the match between Lorient and Reims.
The executive body of the French Football Federation begins Disciplinary after the banner with him Celtic cross, a symbol of the extreme right, hoisted by Reims fans in the away game against Lorient on Sunday (1/5).
Considered a symbol of extremism, the Celtic cross was adopted, notably in France, by the GUD (Union Defense Group), a student movement committed to a nationalist ideology, at least until its disappearance from the top in the 2000s.
The Human Rights Union expressed strong dissatisfaction with the fans’ banner in the stands, with its president Alain Le Dem sending a press release to the presidents of the two clubs to denounce the incident.
“The GUD is a far-right student organization that is regularly reborn with other acronyms, but whose racist and xenophobic rhetoric and actions are firmly established and known in the press and in court to be denounced. In this case, they have no place in public space, let alone on a football field and a sport that wants to be exemplary.‘ he remarked characteristically.
All this just a week after Marie Le Pen received almost 42% in the second round of the presidential election.
