From Ligue 2, Bordeaux will start its attempt to return to the big salons
The nightmare of relegation from the 3rd division due to financial irregularities was finally put an end to for Bordeaux as the French FA decided to keep them in the 2nd division just 24 hours before the start of the championship.
Last season was beyond painful for the Bordeaux football family as fans of the six-time French champions saw their team relegated to Ligue 2 and threatened with ostracism from that league as well as management’s financial misdeeds threatened sending them there is an even lower category.
Especially in the third division of the country’s professional leagues, where the concrete scenario hangs over the heads of the team like the sword of Damocles and the “accident” is avoided at the last moment.
And that’s because Bordeaux, despite the 40 million euro debt, took a deep breath on Wednesday (27 July) when the French Football Federation (FFF) announced that the traditional club would take part in the Ligue 2 championship as usual.
“Today the Executive Committee of the French Football Federation (FFF) held a special meeting to approve the recommendations of the National Commission for Olympic Games and Sport (CNOSF) of July 25th, thereby definitively confirming that Bordeaux can play in Ligue 2 This is the season.
The French FA have now officially recognized the current and future financial strength of our club and the fact that we are more than adequately prepared to play in Ligue 2 this season in full compliance with the relevant sporting regulations.” it says in the corresponding announcement from Bordeaux.
What is impressive is that this decision was made just three days before the Ligue 2 premiere, when the Girondins issued a statement, informing their audience that they will host Valencia next Saturday at 19:00 (local time) as part of the first become competition.
