Paris Saint-Germain defeated Nantes 4-0 to claim their first title of the 2022/23 season in France when they lifted the Super Cup. In a game where the injured Mbappe didn’t play at all, Neymar, Messi and Sergio Ramos scored the four goals for the Paris side who had chances of many more goals.
The Brazilian scored two goals, one with an excellent free-kick and the other from the penalty spot, while it was Messi who opened the scoring with a beautiful goal in the 21st minute. Sergio Ramos scored his third goal in the Paris shirt with an excellent back heel to make it 3-0. For his part, Nantes also had their moments but failed to score and get into the game.
Paris had their first good moment in the 14th minute when Marquinhos headed Lafonds Latte from the top of the box. Nantes responded in the 19th minute with Blas in the penalty area to place the ball and Donnarumma to block the ball.
In the 22nd minute, Messi’s side opened the scoring when Neymar passed the Argentine vertically. Nantes’ defense miscalculated, Messi received the ball, went past the goalkeeper and scored the 1-0 in the empty goal.
Caltier’s men continued to have the upper hand and the ball at their feet and threatened in the 44th minute with Messi making a nice drive down the right and blocking Lafond’s shot.
In the third minute of added time, Paris won a free-kick from a good spot outside the box, but to the side and left. Messi-Neymar found himself on the ball when the Brazilian took over and with a superb shot he put the ball 2-0 up at Lafonds’ right post, which sent both teams into the dressing room.
The second half started with a chance for Nantes, but Goussad’s shot in the 50th minute went wide, while Messi’s shot in the 53rd minute had the same result.
Four minutes later, however, Paris scored another great goal. Verratti filled in for Sarabia, who fired the ball sideways into the box, Lafond tried to clear and Sergio Ramos, who had been pushed forward with a heel-heel, headed the ball into the net to make it 3-0.
In the 81st minute, Neymar found himself in the penalty area, Casteneto knocked him over and the referee gave the Nantes defender the penalty and red card. The Brazilian took command and scored his second own goal to make it 4-0.
