Ligue 1 Lorient v Lyon postponed due to drought
The signs of climate change are also visible in sport, as the drought affecting several countries in Europe has caused the postponement of Lorient’s match against Lyon, scheduled for Sunday (14/08).
According to the Ligue 1 fixture list, Lorient was due to play Lyon in Matchday 2 on Sunday (14/8), but that match has been postponed. This decision was taken by the French Football Federation and was justified by the very poor condition of the pitch at Lorient stadium.
How did we get to this point? The reason is the unprecedented drought that has hit Europe lately as a result of climate change, combined with a festival held from August 6th to 9th at the “Stade du Moustoir” which worsened the state of the turf.
It is even pointed out that the specific decision was taken after he visited the Lorient stadium for the first time in the league last Thursday (8/11), who checked the situation and decided that it was not in good shape at all located. It is noted that in the premiere, Lorient beat Rennes 1-0 away while Lyon beat Ajaccio 2-1.
