Paris – Montpellier 5-2: From five to five with a Neymar show

Paris Saint-Germain is not giving itself away this year. This is evident at least in the opening games of Ligue 1, as the team of Neymar, Messi and Mbappe produced a second consecutive five-pointer victory, beating Montpellier 5-2 in Paris, with Neymar scoring twice while Mbappe and Sanchez scored one each with Paris on his debut.

The home side started the game strongly but found a goalkeeper in front who could put it inside. Specifically, in the 22nd minute, the referee awarded a penalty in favor of Paris for a handball in the penalty area after a VAR intervention. Mbappe took over the execution, sending the ball to the left but Omlin took the corner with an impressive intervention. Four minutes later, Messi tried to defeat Omlin with a foul who, even more impressively, took the corner again with another intervention in the same corner. The phase in the 29th minute had the same outcome, this time the Argentine shot with the right and the goalkeeper of the guests was sent off with an intervention in the right corner.

Since the Paris players couldn’t beat Omlin, he was beaten by a teammate. Mbappe found himself in the penalty area and made a cross from the left, the ball found Sakho and landed in his team’s net to make it 1-0 for Paris. Four minutes later, Sakho made a hand to stop Messi in the box. Neymar took over the execution this time, hitting target and making it 2-0 for the home side in the 43rd minute.

At the beginning of the second half, especially in the 51st minute, Paris made it 3-0 when they pressed, stole the ball, it reached Hakimi who took the cross with Neymar catching the header and sending it into the net. Montpellier reduced the deficit in the 58th minute when, after a save from Donnarumma, Kazri rebounded into the box and scored another shot to make it 3-1.

In 69′ Mbappe found his way to the net with a lead after taking a corner from the left. The French striker put his foot in the limelight and shot the ball into the net to make it 4-1.

Renato Sanchez found the net with a cross from the left in the 87th minute to defeat Omlin 5-1. All Montpellier managed to close the gap to 5-2 in the final with a nice shot from Chatto.
