Kurt Zuma sparked a backlash over his behavior after a video was posted on social media showing him manhandling his cat.

West Ham centre-back Kurt Zuma, who signed a contract until 2025 last summer, provoked anger from many on social media over his abusive behavior towards his cat.

Notably, the former Chelsea stopper punched his cat while his brother videotaped the incident, which he later posted on Snapchat. In this video, Zuma appears to kick the animal like a ball, chasing it around the dining room, throwing a pair of shoes, and ending up smacking it hard in the face.

The 27-year-old apologized after the violent outcry for his abusive attitude towards the animal, publicly apologizing and stressing that it was an isolated case:

I want to apologize for my actions. There is no excuse for my behavior, which I sincerely regret. I also want to say how deeply I’m sorry for everyone who was upset by the video. I want to assure everyone that our two cats are perfect and healthy. “I love her and our whole family loves her and this behavior was an isolated case that will never happen again.”

Animal rights groups have criticized the West Ham stopper who could face criminal prosecution. For its part, the English club issued a statement on Monday evening (07/02) condemned the actions of her player and stated that she would deal with the case “internally”.
