Arteta replied to Obamayang: “I was the solution and not the problem in our relationship”
Obamayang’s statement – during his presentation from Barcelona – that he had a problem with Artetas at Arsenal provoked the Spaniard’s reaction, who in turn raised his glove and handed it back to his former player.
Pierre-Emerick Obameyang has been a part of FC Barcelona for a few days (he even made his debut in last Sunday’s league derby with Atlético and came on in the 61st minute to replace ‘rookie’ Traore), but his name is still in the Arsenal received messages.
Not just for the fact that it has been the Gabonese’s footballing home for the last 4 years, but also for the fact that he left London with grievances, with former Gunners captain Mikel Artetas throwing the ball and claiming responsibility – during his Presentation by the blaugrana- that they only had one problem with him.
Of course, those words couldn’t go unanswered, as the Arsenal manager referred to the Obamayang chapter in Wednesday’s press conference, stating, among other things, that he wasn’t just the problem, but on the contrary was… the solution.
““I’m 100% the solution. I can look everyone in the eye. I’m definitely doing a lot of wrong things. My intention is always the good of the club and the team, not my own.”
I am extremely grateful for everything Oba has done for the club and for his contribution since I’ve been here. In my view, we are the solution in this respect and not the problem.
“Of course he has his opinion and we should respect it.” Arteta stressed that Alexander Lacazette will take over the captaincy duties until the end of the season when his contract with the club expires.
He added the following for Obamayag: “The partnership ended in the best possible way for everyone if something changes, that’s part of football.
It doesn’t matter what we did yesterday or a month ago. We had to make a decision and the best thing was to let him go and now he’s playing for Barcelona.
“We had several appointments but the final decision was made jointly by Arsenal, the player and his manager.”
