Manchester City 2-0 Brentford: Pep’s side are undefeated for the title
Manchester City easily overcame Brentford’s obstacle at Etihad and widened the gap to Liverpool to double digits. Big excitement in London for Southampton and a 3-2 win over Tottenham.
Another step towards the Premier League title, fourth in the last five years, was taken by Manchester City on Wednesday (February 9), beating Brentford 2-0 in their 24th game at “Etihad”. Mahrez and De Bruyne were the goalscorers for Pep Guardiola’s side, who returned to winning ways after a 1-1 draw at Southampton to record 13 wins in their last 14 league games.
In the match, Brentford managed to come out completely bloodless in the first half hour after receiving minimal pressure, but from 30′ the Citizens upped their pace and after 1-2 good moments with Sterling and Laport, they found their way to catch up with the defence of the bees.
Sterling was brought down by Rurslef in the penalty area and the referee showed the white ball, Mahrez beat Raya in the 40th minute to make it 1-0, finding his way to the net for the seventh consecutive time against blue Manchester.
In the second half, City had the upper hand, creating chances and everything showed that it was only a matter of time before the second goal came and finally dropped the title at the end of the game. That moment came in the 69th minute after a childish mistake by Thomas Frank’s team.
To the accuracy of their goalkeeper where Raja tried to feed his team-mate’s feet but Sterling gave the ball to first correct his mistake by saving the Englishman’s place in the fourth quarter but was punished by De Bruyne who took the rebound and hit it cool through the large area.

In the English capital, Tottenham missed a great opportunity to gain an advantage to take 4th place leading to the Champions League after although they were 2-1 up against Southampton, with Sean’s goal in the 70th minute but they couldn’t keep the victory.
