Wayne Rooney made a shocking revelation in an interview with the BBC. The veteran striker and current coach has claimed his alcohol addiction was once so severe that he was scared to death.

Just before the documentary about his life came to light, Wayne Rooney was on a BBC show where he didn’t hide behind his finger but wanted to talk about some of the worst times of his life.

Like the one-turned-alcoholic prisoner, the former Manchester United and England goalscorer-turned-Derby manager has bluntly declared that he fears even death.

“I was afraid I might die or kill someone. I felt like I could easily kill a woman or drive drunk. I got to a point where I felt like committing suicide.

“That’s when I realized I needed help, both to save myself and to protect my family.” said 36-year-old Rooney, revealing that at the time he felt the need to keep secret all the troubles he was having as a professional player.

“Ten to fifteen years ago, I couldn’t go into the locker room and say, ‘I have a problem with alcohol, I have a problem with my mental health, I couldn’t do that with anything.’ closed.
