Jurgen Klopp wants James Milner to stay at Anfield after the end of the season, when his contract expires, and asked the Liverpool administration to extend their association with the 36-year-old.

Liverpool substitute James Milner is in the final months of his contract with the club but Jurgen Klopp wants him at Anfield when the season is over.

According to the Daily Mail, the Germany manager has asked the Reds’ management to offer the 36-year-old midfielder a new deal as he wants to extend the presence of a leading figure in his team’s dressing room.

Klopp is optimistic the club will soon start negotiations with the England international, who will complete 20 years as a Premier League player next summer since he started at Leeds in 2002.

“There will be talks with Milner. We will see. There is no chance that he will retire next year. He wants to keep playing. I understand. “Life after football is much bigger than your career so it makes sense to extend the game as much as possible.” said Klopp.

Milner joined Liverpool FC in 2015 and won the 2019 Champions League, 2020 Liga and Club World Cup in the same year. He has played a total of 273 games with the team, scoring 26 goals while also providing 44 assists.
