Pep Guardiola clarified that Tottenham were negative about Harry Kane’s transfer to Manchester City last summer and claimed the Citizens had tried to take him on.

Last summer the Manchester City had set two big transfer goals. The first was Harry Kane and the second Jack Grillis, who is already wearing blue.

Citizens’ proposals at Tottenham went to the wall despite the Manchester club making a significant increase in the offer. Eventually, Kane stayed in London and Pep Guardiola revealed Tottenham were clear about his stance.

“In the 11 or 12 years of my career I’ve never been disappointed by what the club can’t do in the transfer window. I’ve never been “infected” here because I represent the club and the club is always above me.

We tried to sign Kane but it was still a long way from an agreement as Tottenham knew it wasn’t going to happen. And when it happened two, three, four times, it was over. Now you can say “Harry Kane didn’t come and everything is fine” but at that moment I didn’t know.

The club gave me players and I’m always happy – and we can achieve that together. “If we had a good striker, maybe we would play with a striker, but with the players we have we have to adapt.” said the Spanish coach in the press conference.
