Wolves 2-1 Leicester: Pontense goal keeps Wolves on European trajectory
Wolves defeated Leicester’s resistance 2-1 at Molino thanks to Daniel Pontense’s golden goal in the 66th minute and rose to 7th place which has them dreaming of going to Europe in the new season.
After their great success against Tottenham (0-2) in London, the Wolves wanted another win to dream of a European Cup exit and achieved it on Sunday evening (20/2).
The Leicester casualty, in which Bruno Lage’s wolves were no better than their opponent but found the solutions in the key points and Pontense scored an impressive goal with a try from outside the box in 66 minutes, was imposed 2-1 in the frame of the 26th game of the Premier League.
Technically, the first part was stormy, both teams played aggressively and were both rewarded with a goal. Wolves were the first to find the net with a superb shot from Ruben Neves in the 9th minute to get Leicester’s reply at 41 with a great spot from Ademola Lukman.
In the second half it was Brendan Rodgers’ side who dominated with the lion’s share in almost every statistical category up until the 65th minute, but in a period out of nowhere Daniel Pontense unleashed his boundless talent on the pitch to take the lead his crew to return at 66′.
The Portuguese former Olympiacos midfielder received a pass from Dentonker just outside the area of the big foxes and tried to hit Schmeichel with a powerful diagonal shot, landing the ball to the right of Leicester’s goal and making it 2-1 on the platforms by Molino.
In the remaining minutes, Leicester looked to react and come back for a second time to clinch the win, with Wolves managing their lead exceptionally and impressing Jose Sa with a powerful 90+4 ‘Tillemans’ shot to put the precious 2-1 on to seal the wolves in the struggle for exit in Europe.
