Conte: “You can make mistakes for your wife, but not for your goalkeeper or striker”
Antonio Conte sees Harry Kane and Hugo Loris as the cornerstones Tottenham want to create going into the new season and he made sure that was made clear with a special attack dedicated to them in a press conference.
Tottenham celebrated their biggest Premier League win to date with a 3-2 away win against champions and champions Manchester City, with two players behind by the most years playing a key role in that result, Spurs.
One of them was Harry Kane, of course, who has now scored 238 goals in 380 appearances in all competitions with the north London side, with the 28-year-old striker keen to move to City last summer but despite the fact he broke the deal to do his best with Tottenham and even cause incredible damage to the citizens of Etihad by scoring two goals.
The other protagonist of the triumph in Manchester was Hugo Loris, who made 400 appearances with the spurs in last Saturday’s game and his performance showed that it was no coincidence that Tottenham signed him to a new two-year contract.
What else do Kane and Loris have in common? That both are seen by Antonio Conte as key players in the build-up of Tottenham he envisions as the new season approaches, with the veteran coach even showing his support for them with a special attack he threw during Tuesday’s press conference.
“There is a sporting director in Italy, Pantaleo Corvino. He says you can make mistakes with your wife, but not with your striker or your goalkeeper.
This is the best phrase to understand football to build a team.
“We’re talking about two important players with good experience.” Conte stressed he wanted to send a clear message that Kane and Loris will be the be-all and end-all for Tottenham in the new era, with him at the helm.
