Six managers from new Chelsea management are considering stepping down
Roman Abramovich’s plans for Chelsea’s next day appear to be dysfunctional as some members of management consider resigning and raise legal questions for the Blues’ new management.
Roman Abramovich handed management of Chelsea over to the club’s charity as there were multiple backlashes against him over the Russian military invasion of Ukraine. Members of the British Parliament asked questions about the Russian magnate’s activities in the country over his ties with Putin.
Abramovich’s plan was to hand over the keys of Chelsea’s management (but not his shares) to the foundation so the club wouldn’t get into trouble. However, a report in the Telegraph says that plan is set to fail as six of the managers are considering stepping down.
The reason is that they believe the club’s charity is not the right ‘vehicle’ to lead the management of the team. This issue will be resolved within the week and options will be considered to operate the Londoners with fewer numbers or to replace those members. Of course, it is open to completely change the model of team management.
At the same time, legal questions are raised, since running an association with charitable purposes is not legally compatible. The association’s legal staff is examining the administrative structure that will overcome the legal obstacles and satisfy all parties.
